Where to Start

There are countless online print shops where you select your print to the size you like and have it custom framed to your liking! At first, this was the approach I was going after. I then quickly realized that for the size I needed and look I loved, I should expect to spend in the high hundreds to even $1,000! I just couldn't justify that. There had to have been another way.

So, as one does, I took to Etsy. I started looking up printable landscape art files and happened upon Olive & Oak Collective. They had countless beautiful, organic options for prints that can be scaled to so many sizes. Since the art size I needed was super unique (approximately 47"x54"), I just couldn't find it available in stores online. Here, I was able to purchase the print file I wanted for a few dollars. For convenience, I also had them print it in-house for me on canvas so it looked more like a true painting with texture to it.

Cost

A 47x54" print came out be be approximately $180 with shipping included. Another option that can probably save you a little more money is to print your file directly with your local print shop. I just loved and appreciated the convenience and professionalism of Olive & Oak and was happy to give them my business!

Next, because of the unique dimensions of our piece, it had to be custom framed. Though, if you have a standard sized large print, you can often find stock frames in stores. With that said, I would recommend sticking to a standard size if possible. We opted to go with Hobby Lobby as we knew they had great prices for custom framing.

We brought our print in, laid out some frame options and decided not to do any matting with this one since it was already so large. It was ready within a few weeks and the entire project cost us about $400 but looks like a thousand dollar painting.

I am just so so happy with the end result of this project. It was definitely a learning experience as this was the first large scale print that I had framed. I do love the custom, personal feel to this. Every aspect of this piece from the print material, to the size, to the frame material was hand selected and paired together to fit our space. Couldn't recommend this enough!
